The wild dog adoption programme is one way for us
to gain the support and much needed funding to sustain the project.
Adoptions for each dog last for a period of one year and cost US$1,000.
Where does the money go?
A one year adoptions cover the cost of:
Disease and genetics
testing for your adopted dog, as part of the threat assessment
study. This information is vital for effective conservation.
Fuel and equipment costs
to enable tracking of the dog, to monitor for snares and conduct
behavioural research
What do you get?
The most important benefit that you will receive from adopting a
wild dog is the knowledge that your contribution is helping to conserve
the endangered wild dog population in Zambia.
You will also benefit from knowing that
you are contributing to the long term conservation of Zambia’s
wildlife populations, by supporting the conservation of one of the
largest protected areas in Zambia.
In addition, you will also receive a number of project
materials including:
A Certificate of Adoption that acknowledges your contribution
A biographical fact sheet about your adopted dog
Quarterly project newsletters
An A4 photograph of your adopted dog
Fitting a radio collar to a wild dog
Using radio-telemetry to track wild dogs
